Maduka Okoye Marks Comeback After Two-Month Suspension

Udinese and Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has expressed joy over his return to football following a two-month suspension related to an alleged betting scandal.

The Nigerian shot-stopper made his first appearance of the season on Monday night as Udinese played out a 1-1 draw against Cremonese.

After the game, Okoye, who had been sidelined from the Super Eagles squad due to a dip in form and the controversy surrounding the suspension, took to Instagram to celebrate his comeback.

“Happy to be back doing what I love most,” he wrote. “Back to fighting alongside my teammates, in front of our fans, chasing dreams, and doing what I’ve loved since I was a kid. Back to following the path my father fought for — back to having fun.”

The 26-year-old’s return is seen as a major boost for Udinese as they aim to improve their position in the Serie A standings after an inconsistent start to the season.

Okoye’s comeback could also reopen the door for his return to the Nigerian national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gabon.
