Makinde: Oyo Achieves Economic Stability with N24bn Monthly Salary Payments, Investments

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has highlighted his administration’s efforts in fostering economic stability through the monthly disbursement of approximately N24 billion in salaries to state and local government employees

He also emphasized the state’s economic growth, attributing it to an improved investment climate that has attracted private sector participation.

Makinde made these remarks while receiving a delegation of Muslim faithful, including clerics, traditional rulers, and political leaders, at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan following the Eid-el-Fitri prayers at the Agodi Eid Ground.

The delegation, led by Deputy Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, comprised prominent figures such as the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja; Oyo South Senator, Oloye Sharafadeen Alli; former Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja, and Prof. Kamil Oloso.

During the gathering, Makinde congratulated the Muslim community on the successful completion of Ramadan and commended them for their prayers, patriotism, and support for his administration. He attributed the state’s economic progress to the prevailing peace and unity among residents.

Highlighting the transformation in Oyo’s political landscape, he recalled how past divisions once characterized Eid gatherings but noted that the prevailing atmosphere of harmony has contributed to development and stability.

Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and progress in the state, urging residents to uphold unity as a foundation for continued growth. He also pointed out the positive impact of government salaries on the local economy, with N24 billion injected monthly.

On private sector investment, he cited the upcoming Farmers’ Wholesale Market at Ijaiye Farm Settlement, where 3,000 hectares have been designated for the project, as an example of the state’s economic expansion.

Encouraging political leaders to strive for improvements despite challenges, Makinde expressed optimism about the state’s future, emphasizing that perseverance would yield the desired results.

Senator Ladoja, conveying a message from the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, urged Oyo residents to remain patient and hopeful amid economic difficulties.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Governor Lawal encouraged the Muslim community to uphold values of empathy, love, and kindness as taught by the Holy Quran. He also commended Makinde’s dedication to workers’ welfare through the timely payment of salaries.

Prof. K. K. Oloso led prayers for the governor’s continued success, while other dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, commissioners, and local government officials, also participated in the visit.
