South African star Tyla has made history as the first African artist to win three awards at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards. She claimed the titles of Best Afrobeats, Best R&B, and Best African Act, beating out prominent artists such as Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems.
This achievement follows her earlier recognition at the 2024 BET Awards, where she was honored as Best New Artist, and her win at the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for her breakout single “Water,” which earned her international acclaim.
The 2024 MTV EMAs, marking their 30th anniversary, took place in Manchester and also recognized major artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, and Imagine Dragons.
After her historic win, she expressed gratitude to her fans, tweeting, “Thank you Tygers once again! Y’all are insane!”
