[SPORT] BONIFACE NETS HIS FIRST UCL GOAL

Boniface nets first Champions League goal as Leverkusen edge past AC Milan 1-0

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface stole the spotlight as Bayer Leverkusen secured a 1-0 victory over AC Milan at home in the Champions League on Tuesday, maintaining their flawless start to the tournament.

The game’s defining moment came early in the second half when Boniface showcased his poacher’s instinct, capitalizing on a loose ball to decisively give Xabi Alonso’s side all three points.

After finishing as Europa League runners-up in May, Leverkusen have carried their fine form into Europe’s premier club competition, winning both of their matches with five goals scored and none conceded.

Boniface initially thought he had broken the deadlock in the 21st minute, but VAR ruled out his effort due to an offside in the build-up, denying him his first official Champions League goal.

Despite the setback, Leverkusen continued to press forward, gaining control over their Italian opponents.

German prodigy Florian Wirtz orchestrated Leverkusen’s attacking play, while Boniface remained a constant threat to Milan’s defense.

AC Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, managed to keep the score level going into halftime.

Leverkusen’s pressure finally paid off six minutes into the second half when Boniface converted from close range after Maignan parried a near-post shot from Jeremie Frimpong, leaving the Nigerian striker perfectly positioned to seal the win.
