Despite the cancellation of the 2023 MTV EMA Awards, the victors were officially declared on Sunday, November 5th. Among the honorees were Nigerian artist Rema and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, who secured the titles for Best Afrobeats and Best African Act, respectively.
Rema emerged triumphant in the fiercely contested category, outshining notable contenders like Asake, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Davido. Notably, this marked the inaugural presentation of the Best Afrobeats Award at the MTV EMAs.
Tanzanian sensation Diamond Platnumz, celebrated for chart-toppers like “Number One,” “Kanyaga,” and “Unachezaje,” clinched the coveted Best African Act Award at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). He emerged victorious over stiff competition from Asake, Burna Boy, Libianca, and Tyler ICU.
